Mykola Tomenko: the National Council should become a national body, not an organization under the President´s Secretariat.
The Parliament upheld Mykola Tomenko´s motion concerning adoption of the Bill "On Amendments and Supplements to the Law of Ukraine "On the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting" (re Procedure of Termination of Authorities of the Members of the National Council) (Reg. No. 3312).
The Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada deems necessary to establish parliamentary and public control over the activity of the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting, which at present is actually a subdivision of the President´s Secretariat.
Mykola Tomenko drew attention to the fact that the Parliament had no possibility to control the activity of the National Council, despite the regulation of the Constitution of Ukraine, pursuant to which, this body included four candidacies submitted by the President and four - by The Verkhovna Rada.
"The Verkhovna Rada received a great number of complaints concerning corruptive and other illegitimate actions of the representatives of the National Council. However, its current status presupposes no responsibility of its members, since a relevant decision should be adopted only by the President of Ukraine", - stated the Vice-Chairman.
Therefore, today´s resolution of The Verkhovna Rada concerning procedure of termination of authorities of the members of the National Council brings the status of this body in compliance with the Constitution of Ukraine.
